- Great grilling. Keep the heat out of the kitchen and enjoy a great meal from the grill! Choose a variety of foods from many food groups to enjoy on the grill, like chicken, salmon, veggies, slices of pineapple, and serve colorful side dishes to round out the meal.
- Summertime snacking. When planning road trips or other summer adventures at home or away, keep foods at proper temperature. Use two coolers, one for beverages that will be opened frequently, and one for food that can be kept tightly closed with ice/ice packs to keep things cool. Be sure to include water as part of the beverage options, and include at least two food groups (protein, fruits, veggies, dairy, whole grains) that will be tasty and easy/smart to pack. Try whole fruits and veggies (wash them before packing them), popcorn, string cheese, yogurt, peanut butter, bean salad, canned tuna and other fun options that can be assembled upon arrival or easily transported in recyclable containers. Remember to bring hand sanitizer if you are going somewhere that handwashing isn’t readily available, like hiking.
- Sweet treats. Dessert can be so easy in summer with all the naturally sweet fruits to choose from. Whether you choose to keep it simple and serve Bing cherries, slices of melon, and fruit salad; or get a little fancy and grill peach, plum, or nectarine halves and serve with ice cream, treating Dad can be summer-simple.
Happy Father’s Day to all our favorite dads!
